Why A kitten nursery?
Neonate kittens are one of the most vulnerable and euthanized populations of animals in the United States. Not only do they need around the clock attention but the smallest of neonate kittens often require expensive, specialized medical equipment that many rescues do not have access to or experience using.
AROUND THE CLOCK CARE
Neonate kittens need to be fed special kitten formula as often as every hour, even throughout the night. As you can imagine this is very tiring but rewarding work. Some of our bottle babies need to be tube fed, while others have the ability to use bottles. Each kitten is assessed upon intake into the kitten nursery so that they can receive the specialized care they need to survive and thrive.
SPECIALIZED EQUIPMENT
We need everything from incubators, specialized medical supplies and formula to help our neonates thrive in our care. Incubators are especially important but very costly pieces of medical equipment that saves our most vulnerable lives. Because kittens cannot regulate their body temperature until they are older the smallest kittens benefit greatly from being in an incubator for the first few weeks of their lives.
