How do I adopt?

In order to adopt a cat or kitten through Kittens & Barbells you must first fill out our adoption application located here. Please remember to throughly read the instructions before applying.

Why do you charge an adoption fee?

We are a small non-profit cat rescue and receive no state or federal funding for the services we provide, which means we run entirely on a donation basis. Most cats and kittens end up costing our rescue much more in vetting and supplies than is ever charged to our adopters through the adoption fee.

do you adopt Kittens before 8 weeks?

No, we require that all of our kittens be weaned, healthy and fully vetted before adoption. In certain scenarios we allow foster to adopt before the kitten is spayed or neutered but this is offered on a very limited case by case basis. In any instance bottle babies are not eligible for foster to adopt or adoption until they are older and need less around the clock care.

We believe anyone can be a loving pet parent but have an age limit in order to ensure home and financial stability for our cats. We encourage all of our adopters to think about the costs associated with adopting a pet that can live to be over 20 years old and to carefully consider how a cat/s might fit into your future life plans.

Why are adoptions 21 and up?

All of our cats and kittens receive preventative medical care before adoption. The preventative care we provide includes, but is not limited to: deworming, flea removal, FVRCP vaccine, spay/neuter, FIV/FeLV test, and microchip. Veterinary records will be provided to you in your adoption folder upon the completion of your adoption.

What medical care is included?

Can I adopt only 1 kitten?

Kittens are highly social animals and do best when they are adopted in pairs or to a home with another social cat. If you want to be a one cat home we often have adults that are available to be adopted solo. Adopters wanting to adopt our kittens in pairs are given priority over solo kitten adopters.

WILL I BE contacted after I submit the adoption app?

We do not respond to applications unless they are chosen to adopt as our staff is extremely limited and run completely by volunteers. This is not an indication of your home not being a good fit for a cat it can simply mean that we received multiple applications and felt another home was a better fit for that particular cat. We encourage you to continue to apply for other cats and kittens via our website as we always have new adoptables being added to our available cats list.
