What is sophie’s fospice program?
Our fospice program began with our first fospice cat named Sophie. We rescued her from the South Bronx with the help of our close rescue friend, Daisy Alicea. We quickly discovered that Sophie was terminally ill with Mammary cancer along with other health complications. The doctors gave Sophie 3 months to live but we had almost 10 months together. Giving Sophie a warm bed, a fully belly, and love was the ultimate gift we could have given her. With Sophie’s fospice program we hope to give terminally ill animals a safe haven for their remaining time on earth. Will you help support our cause?
What is fospice Care?
The term “Fospice” comes from a combination of “foster” and “hospice,”. This special kind of fostering finds loving homes for super-senior or terminally ill homeless animals, so that they can live out the rest of their days happily and comfortably. Founders, Katherine Jorquera and Donovan Lee currently open their homes to Kittens and Barbells’ fospice cats and kittens so that they can spend the remainder of their lives in warmth and loved.

Molly is K&B’s current fospice senior cat who is currently residing with the rescue founders, Katie & Donovan. She has been part of Sophie’s fospice program since January 1, 2021. We rung in the 2021 new year with her rescue. Through extensive testing and many medical scares, we discovered that Molly has kidney disease, a heart condition, dental disease, and additional unconfirmed diagnoses. Molly is a very loving and sassy girl. Molly especially loves her foster dad and loves to give him forehead kisses. Molly is on a special diet for her kidney issues and gets pain medication daily to manage her oral pain. You can help cats like Molly by supporting this program.
